Admissions Policy

There is no guarantee of a place for children living in the priority admissions area*.

Children Looked After and children attending the partner infant school who request a place at the junior school will be allocated a place providing an application is received by the closing date.

In the event of oversubscription any remaining places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given:

1. children living in the priority admissions area with a sibling attending the school or the partner infant school;

2. other children living in the priority admissions area;

3. children living outside the priority admissions area with a sibling attending the school or the partner infant school;

4. remaining applications.

In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority.

Exceptional medical circumstances (supported by medical evidence) may override the above.

#For applications received after the start of Year 3 Children Looked After will be given priority ahead of all other applicants.

*Agreement for children living in the priority admission area

For all community and voluntary controlled schools in Essex where a priority admissions area exists there is an agreement for children living in the priority admissions area. The local authority may offer places above the published admission number (during and after the normal time of admission) in the following exceptional circumstances:

1. for infant classes at the class size limit: if the next nearest school with a space is not within a reasonable distance of the home address; or

2. for junior classes or where the admission would not breach the infant class size limit: if the journey to the next nearest school with a space is not reasonable in terms of distance, accessibility or cost.

After the first round of offers on 1 April, some schools may apply this agreement to admit children moving into their area where there is no other school with space within a reasonable distance.

† A sibling is a child who has a brother, sister, stepbrother or stepsister living in the same family unit in the same family household and address who attends the preferred school in any year group excluding the final year.

Biological siblings who attend the preferred school in any year group excluding the final year will also be treated as siblings irrespective of place of residence.

Children residing in the same household as part of an extended family, such as cousins, will not be treated as siblings.

Parent and carers who live in Essex can now apply for their child’s school place online using the Essex Online Admissions Service at: www.essexcc.gov.uk/admissions

PDF copies of the Local Authority's Primary Admissions booklet, along with the Year 2 transfer to Year 3 admission form can also be downloaded from the DOCUMENTS page of this (our school) website
